A number of users, acting in good faith, experimented with changing the "How to Obtain" section for Tonfa Blade. This appears to be a fairly drastic change to the manual of style on pages (which I should probably write a page about), so I hoped to gain community consensus first.

Here's the deal - instead of the standard "bullet point" format, a slideshow displaying the item in the crafting menu would be used. The only problem I see is 1. It might be confusing to readers, 2. It excludes items found through scavenging, and 3. With the way it's currently at, it's way too large to fit.

Any suggestions for this? --k6ka (talk | contribs) 10:48, May 20, 2014 (UTC)

k6ka, I'm the only one who has been experimenting with the new format; I forgot to log in before making edits a few times.

In response to your concerns:

1. The only possible confusion I can see is that the visual display doesn't explicitly state what the different components are, but it's simple enough to review inventory and match the pictures to establish a connection. Readers can also make use of the Components page, which is quite thorough.

2. The slideshow format is, at present, meant to illustrate craftable weapons & gear only, since there are often questions about the available variations & what costs/results can be expected. It can be used alongside the bullet point format, which suffices for explaining how to obtain scavengeable weapons & gear, a much more straightforward process.

There is no evidence that the Tonfa Blade itself is scavengeable (only the schematics are); its classification as Melee (rather than Melee-Improvised) has been treated as a bug: see here and here

3. The display size of the slideshow can easily be adjusted until we can agree on a size that fits.

Further feedback is greatly appreciated. Bertilda (talk) 20:36, May 20, 2014 (UTC)

I think it looks rather strange if we had both a slideshow and bullet point format. Personally I think the bullet points do the job just fine. Also, if we are going to implement a slideshow (undecided at this point), then we need to make it much smaller, since the size you picked made the page look like it had an oversized tumor growing out of it. --k6ka (talk | contribs) 21:01, May 20, 2014 (UTC)
I agree with k6ka, having both a slideshow and bullet points would look odd. I also don't see any benefit to adding images, since they don't cover anything the existing bullet points do besides the stats, which is pointless since players that can craft it would have ready access, and those that don't wouldn't need that info anyway.
Regarding the Tonfa Blade classification, whether it's Improvised Melee or just Melee is irrelevant to the How To Obtain section. Just because it's not listed as Improvised does not automatically mean it can be scavenged. Ecthel013 (talk) 03:09, May 21, 2014 (UTC)
It's probably not listed as improvised since it does have a real-life counterpart that is called the same thing, but I don't know for the sword though... OrangeSkittles (talk) 11:22, May 22, 2014 (UTC)
